The Benefits of the A Level Pathway
A Levels at Holy Mary combine rigour and flexibility, letting each student focus on their strengths while preparing for the world’s top universities.
At Holy Mary, we believe that the A Level pathway offers the ideal balance between academic rigour and flexibility. It allows students to dive deeply into the subjects they are most passionate about, building both expertise and confidence as they prepare for university and beyond.
Unlike broader study models such as the IB Diploma, A Levels enable students to focus on three or more areas of genuine interest, giving them the freedom to design a curriculum that reflects their individual strengths and aspirations. This flexibility also means that we can tailor each student’s academic load to their needs — from those who thrive with a highly demanding schedule to those who benefit from more focused study and personalised support.
Our most academically driven pupils often complete four or five A Levels — occasionally even more (the last student who achieved six A Levels at Holy Mary went on to study Artificial Intelligence at Duke University in the USA). For other students, three A Levels — the minimum required for validation by the Spanish Ministry of Education — can be perfectly suited to their goals and pathways.
Additionally, students interested in validating their studies in Spain through the PCE (Pruebas de Competencia Específica) can do so easily, as these lessons are timetabled around their A Level subjects during the school day.
The A Level system offers each Holy Mary student the academic depth, adaptability, and international recognition that open doors to the world’s top universities.
