Our Year 10 Geographers recently enjoyed a field trip to the breathtaking Sierra de Gredos, as part of their IGCSE ‘Geographical Investigations’ unit. The students got hands-on experience in physical geography along the Río Tormes, measuring key river characteristics such as velocity and sediment size and shape to see how rivers change downstream. Extending their investigation to human and environmental geography, they also analyzed footpath erosion and conducted a comparative study of two contrasting local towns, exploring how tourism has reshaped a settlement historically reliant on livestock cattle farming compared to one adapted for modern visitors.Throughout the trip, students mastered vital fieldwork techniques, including primary data collection, environmental scoring, and mapping, while gaining a deeper understanding of real-world geographical processes.
