Carola G. gold medal at the European Jiu-Jitsu Championship

We are very happy to celebrate and share that last December one of our Year 9 students, Carola G., was awarded the gold medal at the European Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Dublin. Carola is one of three sisters at Holy Mary who each compete at the highest level in this sport. These words were written for us by her proud mother following their participation in the World Championships which took place last November:

We have just returned from Abu Dhabi, to observe our girls participate in the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu World Championships with great results. We are very proud of the girls, primarily for how they have behaved in the face of adversity and challenge. How they’ve grown in the process of committing themselves to making weight and competing at the highest level with top opponents from top fighting countries.

Carmina (5th), Carola (4th) and Casilda (bronze medal) competed against Russia, Brazil, Kazajistan, Lebanon, UAE… and only lost to the winners of their categories. We could not be more proud, not just for the extraordinary results at world level, but for their maturity, courage, respect, and behaviour, proving themselves to be true martial artists.

We wanted to thank you and the entire Holy Mary staff for the support and flexibility offered during their training and competition. This success would not have been possible without your collaboration.

These three young ladies combine their sporting commitments with the completion to the best of their abilities of their school responsibilities. We congratulate them and trust that they will continue to act as perfect role models for their peers at Holy Mary!
