Key Stage 1/2 – Infant and Junior School

In our vibrant Junior School, at the heart of all learning and development we continue to foster a strong emphasis on good manners, self-discipline, and consideration and respect for others.

The carefully structured Junior School curriculum lays the foundation of basic skills in English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Art and IT. Great importance is placed on the acquisition of fluent reading and numeracy skills, through a considered mix of whole class, group and individual work.
Further enhancing the breadth of subjects taught at Junior level, PE and French are taught with enthusiasm and challenge, aiming to inspire our young people in new and exciting ways.

Although we place a particular emphasis on high academic achievement, we are equally committed to developing the individual passions, talents, values and personal qualities of all our children, helping them to follow their chosen path, wherever it may take them in the future. We hope they will both enjoy and value their time here, and will take with them not only the best possible qualifications, but also a sense of purpose, self-belief, firm friendships and compassion towards others that will serve them well throughout adult life.

Children receive five hours of English and five hours of Mathematics inputs each week. Formal Spanish classes begin in Year 1, and children have one hour of Lengua Española/Cultura each day. One of the key aims of Year 1 is that we would like all children to be able to read and write in English and Spanish by the end of the year.
This structure is continued into our Junior School, where children continue to receive five hours a week of English and five hours of Maths teaching. By the end of Year 6, we would expect all our children to be able to speak, read and write in both English and Spanish with a strong degree of fluency.
