This term, Year 4 has been learning about the Romans. In our art lessons over the last few weeks, we have designed and painted our own Roman shields. When designing our shields, we tried to include a weather symbol and an animal symbol – just like the Romans did on their shields. We also considered how we could make them as scary and fierce-looking as possible to warn off our enemies!
When we had finished making our shields, we learnt about the different ways the Roman army used their shields to attack and to defend themselves. We made some different Roman formations: the orb, the wedge and the tortoise, using our own shields.
