The Year 13 physics class, along with Mr. Breathnach and Juan Carlos, paid a visit to the Consejo de Seguridad Nuclear (CSN) here in Madrid. They learned about the role of the CSN who are the governmental agency responsible for the nuclear plants here in Spain, and are the authority on nuclear safety and on all matters regarding protection against nuclear radiation.
The students were given a talk by an employee of CSN, regarding all forms of radiation, the steps involved in producing energy in nuclear power plants, the safety aspect involved, the control of the radioactive waste material, which all helped to reinforce their learning and understanding from their A level physics classes. They then had some time to walk around the interactive museum including the opportunity to spot radiation particles in the impressive cloud chamber that they have there!
