Year 6 visited Las Rozas to learn about orienteering. We arrived, full of excitement to learn new map reading skills and to have fun navigating in teams. At the park, we were met by our instructors, who showed us the maps we would be using and told us about the area that we would be working in – an enormous park area full of different pathways, rivers, hills and forests!
After spending some time with our instructors looking at the maps and working out what we could use to help us navigate, we worked together to find the first clue on our orienteering course. An orange flag marked the spot we were searching for and we soon found the answer to our first question. Now that we were feeling more confident, our instructors split us into teams and the race was on! We used all of our mapwork skills (and a little help from our instructors!) to find the clues and to race back to the finish line!
We completed the orienteering course and shared our answers. We ate a well-earned lunch before taking the coach back to school. We had such fun learning new skills and really enjoyed working together to solve problems.
